After a relaxing summer we’re back on the grind in one of the most enjoyable seasons of the year – fall! With the temperature swaying at a cool 50°F to 65°F and leaves turning golden yellow, red or brown, it’s the perfect time to put on your favorite sweater and enjoy our top picks for this season right here in Chicago!
1. Enjoy What Nature Has To Offer
Before the temperature dips down for the year, take a stroll or bike ride in one of Chicago’s many sprawling outdoor spaces. Bring along your favorite four-legged friend and explore the Lakefront Trail located within Grant Park, or head to Millennium Park that features the eye-catching (and insta-worthy) Cloud Gate aka “The Bean”.
If you’re more of a weekend adventurer take a day trip outside of Chicago’s downtown core and head out to the Chicago Botanic Garden. If you really want to get into the seasonal spirit, visit during October 16 to 20th to see more than 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins on display.

2. Inspiration’s Around The Corner
While this change of season brings with it beautiful fall foliage, it also brings shorter days and increased chances of rain. Luckily Chicago has many indoor sites and events to take-in.
With a new exhibition around the corner, The Art Institute of Chicago is the perfect afternoon activity. Counting more than 350 recognized and celebrated works from Andy Warhol, a visit spent strolling through his dedicated special exhibition (opening Oct. 20th) is sure to inspire. Finish your afternoon with the works of Monet, Van Gogh, Matisse, Pollock (and more!), followed by a walk through the gallery’s South Garden for optimal autumnal sights and sounds.
Bonus: Did you know most museums in the windy city offer a discount for Illinois and/or Chicago residents? The Art Institute of Chicago offers a $5.00 discount for Chicago residents and from August 14th to November 13th, 2019, The Field Museum is offering ‘Free Admission Day’ every Wednesday. Read more about it here.
3. It’s Festival Season

First up, the city will play host to numerous Oktoberfest events that make for a fun date night idea or great time out with friends. For a full list of scheduled events, check out Time Out Chicago.
For those interested in “Wow, I wonder how that was built?”, “What’s inside that building?” and more – now’s your chance to find out about the hidden architectural gems in Chicago and explore the city like you never have before. The Open House Chicago festival is on October 19th to 20th and is free to the public! Here is a list of over 300 sites that will be open for exploring.
Go full fall-mode with a Starbucks pumpkin-spice latte (located a few short steps away from the lobby) and make your way the The Lincoln Square Ravenswood Apple Fest!
